Hilary Duff is heading back to her roots.

The erstwhile Lizzie McGuire star has signed a deal with NBC to star in a new, yet-to-be-titled series, as well as make guest appearances on several of the Peacock's shows.

Duff will meet with various writers to hash out ideas for the sitcom, which will be produced by Universal Media Studios.

HILARY Duff revealed a much curvier figure on the set of her newest film yesterday.
The stunning actress, who worried friends and family when she lost a drastic amount of weight in 2005, looked healthy and happy filming scenes for Stay Cool.

Hilary had previously claimed her shrinking frame was down to pilates and exercise, but later revealed she did feel she had lost too much weight.

She said: "I did get skinny, I've felt that pressure like everyone else in my position. When a newspaper comes out that says 'Duff Puff - she must have gained 15 pounds' or something like that, how would any normal person react?"

The 20-year-old revealed she has body worries like everyone else, adding: "People are thin. I do worry about what I look like but I'm not going to let it control my life."

Hilary is currently working on recording her new album, including a song penned by Ryan Tedder - frontman for OneRepublic and the man responsible for Leona Lewis' global hit, Bleeding Love.

Is Hilary Duff doing a Miley Cyrus? Not exactly. Duff isn't a teenager, but she's definitely stretching her ex-Disney good girl image in the outrageous "War, Inc." Duff goes from blonde to brunette as super trashy Yonica Baby Yeah � a Middle Eastern pop diva who's better at swearing than singing. At the premiere, Duff told Parade:

"It was a challenge you know it was a challenge because it's finding a character that's so different from my personal life, like who I am and then how people will perceive me. It's a little like scary -- I guess I'm like, "Oh, god. When people see this, are they going to like freak out?" But I just go to the point of saying, "This is acting. I'm an actor. It's a challenge. And I want to go for it. And it's fun. And just stepping into I guess, the whole outfit and having an accent made it kind of easy, in a way, but that part was challenging, you know?"

Say goodbye, Lizzie McGuire, say hello, Eastern European pop tart. Yep, Hilary Duff is all grown up now, a beautiful 20-year old, and in her latest film, "War, Inc.," opening Friday, she makes a big career move. Co-starring with John Cusack and Marisa Tomei, Duff plays Yonica Babyyeah, a foul-mouthed, oversexed and underdressed Central Asian pop singer so outrageous, she makes Madonna look like a nun. It's a role that might shock her clean-as-driven-snow, teeny-bop fan base, but could also jump-start Duff's mature movie career. To find out what Duff was thinking, Lewis Beale caught up with her at the TriBeCa Film Festival, where "War, Inc." had its New York premiere.

You drop a major expletive quite a few times in this film. That's quite a change for you. What were you thinking?

Not only am I doing that, but I'm smoking, letting boys put their hands ... The character was a bit vulgar. I don't think using the ... word would have bothered me if I had said it once or twice, but it's throughout the whole movie. But I'm just acting.

Are you worried how your longtime fans will react to a role like this?

I think that's the risk that I take. But I'm growing up, and my fans are going to grow up with me. I think there will be a mixed emotion about it. But if I lose fans, well, I don't want to limit myself in my career.

Is that the reason you chose this part?

A lot of people didn't want to give me a chance for a long time, because I was doing movies where I was nice, and I was still a kid. But that put me in a box, and people didn't want to take a chance on me. When I got this script, I flipped over it. I felt 'I need this, I want this.' It was great just getting to play a character that was so out there and crazy.

You were 13 years old when you first appeared in the hit Disney Channel show "Lizzie McGuire." What's it like growing up in public?

It's all I know, really. There are things that were hard, because I was thinking things like, 'If I say this, someone could take it this way or that way.' I also went through a period where I felt awkward with my body. There were times I would have a meltdown, because you're working hard like an adult. But my mom treated me completely normal. She never used the ... word, [or] said, "Oh, Hilary's famous." I would get put in my place really fast.

It seems with this movie you have some sort of career plan, a way to move from teen star to adult. Do you?

I do have those conversations, but things change everyday I think, "Hmm, it might be interesting if I did that." I'm taking a break for awhile, and reading scripts. But I'd love to do a big movie, an action movie.

Well, it still seems you're going in a different direction, like in your upcoming film "Greta," where you have a relationship with a black guy. Was that interracial angle something deliberate on your part?

I didn't even think about the racial angle. I just have a lot of friends in interracial relationships, and I've never been the type of person to judge that. Growing up in Los Angeles, everything's accepted.

Your mom and dad separated two years ago after being married more than 20 years. You wrote about the pain of this in your hit songs "Stranger" and "Gypsy Woman." How has the breakup affected you personally. Has it also affected your career?

I don't think it has affected my career. I knew people would find out about it, because when I was making that album, it was on my mind. It has changed my life forever, and I wanted my fans to know about it. I was 18 when it happened, and I think growing up in my business, I grew up a little faster. You just never think it will happen to you when you're that age, when your parents have been together for so long. It was a shock, it's tough, and it's still tough every day.

First, Jonas Brothers frontman Joe Jonas came to Miley Cyrus' defense, after snapshots showing her in her bra and underwear surfaced online. Now it seems that Hilary Duff is in the "Hannah Montana" star's corner too.

Tween star Duff told People.com that she's not about to pass judgment on the 15-year-old pop sensation � and Disney's main moneymaker � just days after Cyrus issued a statement apologizing both for the controversial photos and for ones she'd taken for an upcoming Vanity Fair spread. Cyrus, who expressed embarrassment over the pictures, appears to be topless in the images, which were shot by celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz.

In the statement, Cyrus said, "The pictures of me on the Internet were silly, inappropriate shots. I appreciate all the support of my fans, and hope they understand that along the way I am going to make mistakes and I am not perfect. I never intended for any of this to happen, and I am truly sorry if I have disappointed anyone. Most of all, I have let myself down. I will learn from my mistakes and trust my support team. My family and my faith will guide me through my life's journey."

"Everyone goes through things and takes their own path," Duff told People during a junket promoting her upcoming film, "War Inc." "Who am I to judge decisions that she made?"

Duff, however, said she would never elect to follow Cyrus' lead. "People are pushing you to do something, and if you want to do it, that's your choice, you know?" she said. "It's not what I would choose to do, but if she did, then that's fine. That's her choice."

Duff � who is 20 and has seemingly managed to evade the same pitfalls that have tarnished the reputations of contemporaries like Vanessa Hudgens, Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears � said she has long relied on her family and friends to guide her professional decisions.

"I've had a lot of help from people," she explained. "It's a joint effort with my family and everyone helping me balance my life."
